Jefferson is the seat of Ashe County NC. Jefferson is a lively town, dotted with antique shops, family-style restaurants, and a wonderful friendly atmosphere!

Ashe County NC is over 200 years old! Our area provided hunting grounds for Daniel Boone and have named our county seat after Thomas Jefferson.

The people of Ashe County NC boast about the New River that is the second oldest in the world.  Ashe County NC shares land with the oldest mountains in North America, with an average elevation of 3100 feet. We receive 48.06 inches of rain per year and an average of 38 inches of snow each winter.

Ashe County offers wonderful year round activities such as fishing or paddling the New river. Ashe County NC is famous for bicycling along miles of scenic highways and byways. Ashe County also features 4000 parks, many along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Shop at the old general stores and hardware stores...or browse for antiques and mountain crafts.

Ashe County NC is home to many fine artists whose works are on display throughout the area. You'll also want to visit Ashe County Cheese...the only cheese factory in the state.

There are also two wonderful North Carolina golf courses and a shooting reserve with quail and pheasant.

NC hiking is a popular pastime as there are hundreds of miles of trails that dot the entire county.
